I don't live in the ghetto!

Avery woke up this morning at 5:50. It was MUCH too early to be awake on a Saturday morning, so I tried to coax her to fall back asleep. I wasn't successful, so then Josh tried. Once he got back into bed, he said "I hear people outside". He looked and said' "Hil, there are two cops on the driveway across the street." I responded, "really??" I got out of bed and looked, the number of officers had now multiplied to five...eeeekk! And don't worry three of the five, were holding assault rifles. By this time, I was so scared. We could see other officers standing behind, their cars with guns at the ready.

From what we could make of it, the officers were all staring at the next door neighbors. My parents and sister are visiting us this weekend, we were hoping that they too wouldn't we awoke by this problem. Then at 6:00, and we heard over the loud speaker of the squad car. "All occupants of 6353, this is the Metropolitan Police Department, come out the front door with your hands in the air." After that "announcement" everyone in our house was wide awake and in my bedroom to watch the action.

After a few more announcements, two young girls came out of the house with their hands up! All this commotion, I was shocked it was just for these two girls. The girls are then searched and taken up the street. The officers were still pointing their assault rifles at the house, this time the announcement said, "Jonathan, come out of the house with your hands in the air." That pesty Jonathan still didn't come out. We could see the officers evacuating the neighbors across the street. Soon enough, we heard pounding on our door. We were being evacuated too. I was so scared.

It is about seven now and we are all walking up the street to safety! As we walked, we saw about 15-20 police cars surrounding our street. There was also police tape blocking off all traffic. Once we arrived on safe ground, we waited about another 30 minutes and the "standoff" was finally over. Jonathan came out of his house and surrendered. Hallelujah it had ended peacefully!!!

We don't know Jonathan nor his ladies friends! They moved in a few months ago and keep to themselves. We suspect that he is a gang member as the gang unit officers showed up after it was over.

There are more post to come about conference and the rest of my family's visit!

Um...maybe you guys should come stay with us next time we get together!

Just kidding--I've been to your house and I thought your neighborhood was very safe!

This reminds me of the first night Chad was in CA alone, staying in a ghetto area and a police helicopter was circling his hotel with a searchlight going through the parking lot.

Adventures of living in Vegas, huh!! We have had helicopters circling our neighborhood at night with searchlights on a few times before. That makes me nervous. I watch out the back window hoping I don't see anyone jumping the fences!

That sounds like a good time. Wish I had excitement like that in my neighborhood.

Ahh!! Scary! I'm so glad you guys are okay. I'm just glad you guys are all law-abiding citizens and this will probably never happen to you.

I love the "probably" in Janessa's post. Dad sent me a video of the cops telling Jonathan to come out of the house. Ah, Vegas. When can I come to visit?

Crazy! We had a similar experience when we lived in Bountiful, but it wasn't quite as dramatic. I just saw a bunch of guys in masks holding guns in the parking lot behind our apartment. It was freaky! Then we called the police department and they told us there was an undercover unit in our area. So then we grabbed blankets and made popcorn and had a good time watching them go in and out of one of the apartment.

Oh my word! At least it makes for a great story. My brother & sis-in-law had drug dealers living across the street. Luckily for us all, they moved out. That was kinda scary.
