Crafty

I have never been a crafty person. Never good at being creative. Much more of a left brain type person. My sister, on the other hand, is totally a right brain type person. She is a beautiful artist who can draw, sew, paint, and design. I could go on and on about her. She is amazing. My mom is also very artistic. So trying to be more like them, I asked for something crafty for my birthday. Luckily, Josh listened to all of my hints (Thanks, Amy!) and he got me just what I wanted.... a sewing machine! I am excited to learn how to sew. Anyone wanna teach me?

While we were in Utah, I made my first project. A little summer dress for Avery. It's the first thing I have made since junior high, when I made a turtle pillow in a sewing class.  Boy it was a disaster!!

Don't laugh at my attempt. Well you can laugh, just not when I am around. It was the first time I had sewn with a pattern. Avery HATES it- refuses to wear it. Oh well!

It is so nice! You don't give yourself any credit. Don't worry, I'll just tell Avery to wear it, and she'll wear it. ;) jk She'll like it, I'm sure. Way to go, Hilary. That's awesome. I have a sewing machine, too...hardly ever use it. So maybe one day we could go plan something, get fabric, and then make it. That would be fun, I think.

I have started asking Scott for a sewing machine too. I am gonna try and make some cute stuff for the new baby. My mom is a big sewer but I was never interested in it before so I never learned.

Wow! I'm really impressed! That does not look like an easy "first" time dress! Good job Hilary! Interested in a sewing club?

Nice job! I want to be more crafty too. At least you accomplished something. I got a sewing machine for christmas, and its still in the box.

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure I helped you quite a bit with the aforementioned turtle pillow. Something about me being Mrs. Hinckley's TA and all your friends being in the same class...
The dress is adorable!

I want a sewing machine too! You know what is funny...I made a turtle pillow in seventh grade too! Your sister had to help me! She was great! I am a sewing dummy! I am impressed though...I don't think that I would be able to follow a pattern.

That's is so great you got a sewing machine, wish you still lived here, I could help. So sorry Avery won't wear it. Don't take it personally, just try again.

Cute - and good job - keep trying - I'm still not sure that I "like" sewing, but I like having the custom made stuff when I am done. I just don't really the process while I am doing it.
