I was so excited to make it through week 34 of pregnancy. I knew if I could just make it until week 37, I would be set! I started to have contractions at 36 weeks. They happened off and on, nothing to be too concerned about. Then on March 26th, in the middle of the night, they started to be really strong. They lasted about 2 hours and I was able to fall back to sleep. I wasn't too worried because they stopped on their own. When I went to monitoring that week, I told my doctor about it. He wasn't too concerned either! But told me to call next time it happened.
Then the next Saturday, April 2, the contractions started again around 3pm. I was hesitant to call my doctor. Josh finally persuaded me to call. He told me to go in and get checked out. I called my friend Anna, and she said she would take Avery. We went to the hospital around 6:30 to get checked out. I got changed and the nurse checked me. Much to her surprise and even more to mine, I was dilated to a 4-5!! I was so excited. She told me I could have my baby that night. So, I decided it was time to call my parents. My parents were shocked! They quickly packed their bags and hopped in the car.
My doctor couldn't make it to the hospital until 9, so they waited until them to give me my epidural and break my water. I was hestisant to get an epidural. I knew I could do natural childbirth again. I am SO glad that I decided to get it. It was wonderful! When the nurse checked me at 9, I was a 6. The progression was so slow. By 11, I was 8 and by 11:30, I was complete! Dr. Wilkes was called and arrived around 12:15. I was so glad to see him.
Parker James was born at 12:55am on April 3. Parker was my maternal great-grandma's maiden name and James after my maternal grandfather. Both my grandpa and great grandma have had a great influence on my life! Park weighted 7 pounds even and was 19 inches long. He has tons of dark brown hair. He looks a lot like Avery when she was a newborn!
(My family missed the birth by about 90 minutes. Too bad, maybe next time!)
