Adventure

This has been a really hard week for me and Ave. I have a list of items that I need/want to do before baby boy is born. #1 on the list is potty training Avery. Yuck! I have been putting it off for weeks, well since she turned two- last October! Just a warning, you may want to stop here if you don't like the word pee!

We started on Monday afternoon. She drank tons of "princess juice" and ate lots of ritz crackers. No accidents- which probably would have been a little hard as she sat on the potty chair for most of the time. Tuesday- only one major accident in the kitchen and a couple of small, minor accidents. She even woke up dry from her nap!

Today she woke up and said, "I don't want to be potty trained." Should I take this as a sign she's not ready OR that she's just as stubborn as me? She LOVES telling me she's a "big girl" now or that she's "big stuff." She also loves wearing her mickey mouse undies. No princesses for her.

She did really well this morning before we went to play group. When we got to Anna's house. Anna asked how it was going. She told Avery she had a special potty chair for her to use. (Anna is just sweet like that!) Avery was excited. I set a timer for every 10 minutes to check up on the potty situation.  Every time I would ask and take Ave to the bathroom, she'd tell me "I don't have to go." After being there 30 minutes, every 2-3 minutes Avery would say "I have to pee." But by the time we got to the bathroom, she refused to go. I was SOOOO frustrated. I finally sat Avery on the toilet and told her to go! She finally went! After that, she still told me every 2-3 minutes she had to pee. We finally went home. Once at home, she seemed fine again and not stressed about it.

Potty training is exhausting! Maybe we aren't quite ready to venture out of the house just yet!

I am impressed you are daring enough to do it prior to the new baby! We thought about doing it too but decided to wait because he too was stubborn. Also it is common for the sibling to revert backwards for many things when the new baby comes because of the new feelings that they are experiencing such as jealousy and such. Good Luck! I HATE potty Training! ;)

AMEN SISTA! Potty training bites!
I'm probably shouldn't be giving advice because I waited until both of my boys were over 3 to potty train them (yep that's how terrified I am), but both of them basically potty trained themselves at that age. It literally only took them 1 day to get the hang of it and then it was done.
I also find that using bribes works. For Josh we put up stickers every time he went on the potty. For Jame we kept a jar of candy on the back of the toilet and he got one every time he went....and they both knew they had to GO to get it. They got praised for going to sit on the potty. Good job! Thanks for trying! Super!.....but unless you actually GO, you don't get the reward.
Good LUCK! to you!

Each child is different. Kade thought it was fun and loved stickers and charts. Maura thought it was cool at first but then we had to bribe, force, and finally just do nothing but pee every half hour and practice 10 X in a row if we had accidents. She still doesn't like to go. Gavin was like Maura. We even got him a potty watch(I can send it to you if you want) But we still can't get him to poop. And it's disgusting and frustrating.

And it's so hard because you don't want it to be a negative experience and to punish them. But Crap! It's hard not to get mad when you KNOW they could do it if they just WANTED to.

Good luck. We totally feel for you.

I'm glad Avery could learn at my house, too. :) Love her!
