Unwanted Call

At 7:30 this morning, I received a phone call from the nurse taking care of Avery. It's NEVER a good thing when the nurses call during shift change. She called to let me know that Avery is sick. During the night Avery had two "spells." This is when her heart rate and oxygen saturation levels dropped at the same time, usually a sign of an infection or apnea. Apnea is common in preemies (especially for those born at or before 34 weeks), but not with Avery. She also had a fever and an elevated heart rate, both signs of an infection.

By the time I got to the hospital, they had her on two antibiotics and ran lots of tests. They won't know until Wednesday night or Thursday morning if it is an infection or where it's coming from. The doctors and nurses are pretty confident that its an infection. After I had been there an hour, she had a another spell. It was so hard to watch and know that I couldn't do a thing. They put her back on oxygen to hopefully prevent anymore.

At Josh's lunch, I went and picked him up at school. When we got back to the hospital, Avery had another little spell. This one was much smaller than the rest. After that, Josh gave Ave a blessing. What an amazing blessing the priesthood is! Since early this afternoon, she has been good!

Now all we can do is sit, wait and pray. Please pray for our little one.

That sucks. I was hoping her hospital stay would be without incident. Hopefully they'll find where the infection is and treat it.
